The Ethical Journalist: Making Responsible Decisions in the Pursuit of News

Welcome to the website for The Ethical Journalist where students and teachers will find additional resources for the course, including supplemental readings, case studies, point-of-view essays, and miscellaneous resources for each chapter.

Updated in June 2013, new materials include revised chapter resources for students, timely case studies of the latest trends and news, and links to detailed reports meaningful to the teaching of journalism ethics, including an interactive history of undercover reporting.

New case studies include

• Chapter 12: The origin of factual errors that marred early reporting of the Boston Marathon bombing
• Chapter 14: The question of whether a newspaper’s publication of the names and addresses of licensed gun owners was an unwarranted invasion of privacy
