Welcome to the Web site for Smith, Currie & Hancock's Common Sense Construction Law: A Practical Guide for the Construction Professional, 3rd Edition by Thomas J. Kelleher, Jr., Currie Smith, and Hancock Smith. This Web site gives you access to the rich tools and resources available for this text. You can access these resources in two ways:
INTRODUCTION TO TEACHER'S MANUALThis teacher's manual is intended to supplement the regular text. It provides additional tools and information to help develop the material discussed in the text and provide students with a "hands on" approach to dealing with typical issues and problems. The Teaching Supplement consists of a combination of the following materials: Chapter Case Study; Outside Information; Sample Problems and Exercises; and Sample Forms and Clauses. Case Studies: Case studies are provided for many of the chapters. Each case study sets forth a set of facts related to one or more of the issues discussed in that chapter. It is followed by a set of questions created to cause the students to apply the general principles set forth in the chapter. The authors encourage you to assign the case study along with the relevant chapter and then engage the students in a class discussion focused on the questions and the actual case(s) on which the case study is based. The relevant portion of the actual case is attached to the case study. Several of the case studies involve multiple issues and related fact situations. Consequently, it is possible to select portions of a case study for consideration without addressing every issue at one time. Outside Information: Included in this section are web-sites that provide helpful information and tools to keep current with the subject content of the chapter. You will be able to obtain useful information to supplement the text and research and review current trends in the industry. The author's website at www.smithcurrie.com contains an additional resource in the firm's newsletters. These contain discussions of recent cases illustrating principles discussed in the text. Sample Questions & Exercises: The section provides exercises to be used both in class and outside of class. It also provides sample quiz and test questions. Sample Forms and Clauses: The section includes sample forms and clauses used in the construction industry. There are also relevant articles. These same forms are suggested for use in many of the exercises. You are encouraged to use these forms to develop your own exercises and/or use as handouts to discuss with the class. |
